Argentina survived a huge scare, all thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Enzo Fernandez. The team was down by two goals until the 78th minute, after which Cristian Romero opened the scoring before Lionel Messi added a second and Fernandez ended it to seal the deal. The goal ended hopes for the Egyptian side to avoid any extra time.

Meanwhile, the game ended in huge controversy. Egyptian footballer Mostafa Mohamed Ziko has launched strong criticism of the refereeing following his team's defeat to Argentina. The player who scored the second goal for Egypt after one of his goals was disallowed has claimed that Argentina is favoured.
Egyptian scorer Ziko accuses referee bias as Argentina advances in World Cup
In a post-match interview, Ziko stated:
“The referee is unfair, God is sufficient for me and the best disposer of affairs. He's wasting the effort of an entire nation.”
Ziko added:
“The cup is being given to Argentina. They win the World Cup.”
Ziko further said:
“CONGRATS ARGENTINA FOR THIS WORLD CUP, THE GAME IS RIGGED.”
Egypt held a two-goal advantage before conceding three late goals in a dramatic collapse against the defending champions. The result has triggered heated debate on social media, with some supporters echoing claims of officiating favouritism towards Argentina, while others point to Egypt's defensive lapse as the primary factor.
FIFA has not yet commented on the allegations. The incident adds to ongoing scrutiny of refereeing standards as the tournament progresses. Meanwhile, Argentina will face the winner of Colombia vs Switzerland.
