Teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal has confirmed that he intends to sign a new contract with Barcelona shortly, putting to rest any speculation regarding his departure from the club.
Yamal's current contract and extension plans
Yamal, who has taken the football world by storm this season, is currently in the final 18 months of his contract with Barcelona, which he signed in October 2023. Due to his age, Spanish regulations restrict him to a three-year contract. However, when he initially agreed to the deal, terms for a future extension were already discussed with renowned agent Jorge Mendes.
Barcelona is reportedly preparing to offer Yamal a fresh four-year deal to keep him at the club until 2030. While the contract has yet to be signed, there have been concerns among fans, especially after Paris Saint-Germain made a sensational €250 million bid for the young talent in the summer.
Yamal dismisses departure concerns
To quell fears of a potential exit, Yamal spoke confidently about his future with the Catalan giants in an interview with CNN. "I don't know when the contract will be signed, but I believe it will be soon," he said. The 16-year-old made it clear that Barcelona is the “club of my life” and expressed his strong desire to stay with the team.
"I hope to renew my contract with them and to be with them for as long as possible. I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to play for Barca, and yes, I will renew my contract. I will," Yamal added.
Assurance from Jorge Mendes
The teenager’s words were echoed by his agent, Jorge Mendes, who has also assured Barcelona fans that Yamal will soon commit to a long-term deal with the club. Mendes recently emphasized that his client is fully dedicated to Barcelona and will finalize the renewal shortly.
Yamal’s promising future at Barcelona looks secure as the club aims to retain the highly sought-after talent, who has already shown immense potential on the field.
