Paris Saint-Germain players formed a guard of honour for Fabian Ruiz on Monday as he returned to training following Spain’s triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish midfielder was welcomed by the team as he joined the side ahead of the upcoming football season after the historic World Cup victory.

The warm reception reflected the club’s pride in the midfielder’s achievement with La Roja, marking a positive start as the squad prepares for the new season. The gesture took place at the club’s Campus in Poissy during the first full squad session under head coach Luis Enrique.

Ruiz, who helped Spain defeat Argentina 1-0 in extra time in the final to claim their second World Cup title, was greeted with applause from teammates and staff as he walked through the traditional “pasillo.”
Several of PSG’s World Cup participants, including Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Achraf Hakimi, also returned to training on the same day, allowing the squad to reunite fully ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash with Aston Villa.
Ruiz had been a key figure for Spain throughout the tournament in North America. He scored in the quarter-finals against Belgium and earned his 50th international cap in the final. The 30-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding period, contributing to PSG’s recent domestic and European successes before adding the ultimate international honour.
Meanwhile, Spain went on to win their second World Cup title, defeating Lionel Messi-led Argentina in extra time, all thanks to a stunner by FC Barcelona's Ferran Torres. The scoreline was 1-0, similarly to when they won their first World Cup title in 2010.
