Indian chess prodigy Arjun Erigaisi has made history by becoming the second Indian player, after the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to achieve a live Elo rating of 2800.

Indian chess prodigy Arjun Erigaisi made history on Thursday, October 25 by becoming the youngest Indian and only the second Indian to achieve a 2800 Elo rating.

This remarkable feat was accomplished during his participation in the European Chess Club Cup 2024, where he defeated Russia's Dmitry Andreikin in the fifth round. With this achievement, Arjun joined an elite group of 16 players who have surpassed the 2800-rating barrier.

Alireza Firouzja, a French chess grandmaster, holds the record for being the youngest player to cross the 2800 Elo rating barrier at the age of 18 years and five months. Following closely behind is five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

In a recent achievement, GM Arjun Erigaisi defeated French grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in an Armageddon match to clinch the 2024 WR Chess Masters Cup. This victory earned him a €20,000 prize and 27.84 FIDE Circuit points.

Arjun's exceptional performance in the French Team Chess Championship has propelled him into the top five of the FIDE world rankings, making him the highest-ranked Indian chess player.

His recent form has been outstanding. He secured both individual and team gold medals at the Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest. Additionally, he achieved a second-place finish in the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament and a joint-fifth place in the Sharjah Masters Open Tournament. In April, Arjun clinched the Menorca Open title, defeating strong contenders like GMs Kirill Alekseenko and Maksim Chigaev.
