Following Coco Gauff’s departure, another rising American talent exits Federer-backed Team8 and joins global talent agency WME.

Despite the split, the player remains associated with Federer through endorsement ties with Swiss brand On Running.

In a significant shake-up for Roger Federer’s management firm, another rising American tennis star has decided to part ways with Team8, just weeks after Coco Gauff’s high-profile exit. Ben Shelton, one of the brightest young talents on the ATP Tour, has officially ended his association with the Federer-backed agency and signed a new representation deal with talent powerhouse WME (William Morris Endeavor).

Founded in 2013 by Federer and his longtime agent Tony Godsick, Team8 has managed several elite names in the tennis world. However, the back-to-back exits of Gauff and Shelton mark a notable shift in the firm’s client portfolio — especially at a time when both players are gaining prominence on and off the court.

Ben Shelton Joins Star-Studded WME Roster

Ben Shelton, who is preparing for a strong Wimbledon run later this month, has now joined the WME/IMG roster, which already represents global tennis icons such as Carlos Alcaraz, Serena Williams, and Iga Swiatek. This move is expected to elevate Shelton's profile and branding opportunities significantly, aligning him with one of the most influential talent agencies in global sports and entertainment.

Despite leaving Team8, Shelton continues to be sponsored by Swiss sportswear brand On Running, where Roger Federer holds a notable stake. This suggests that while professional representation has shifted, commercial ties with the tennis legend remain intact.

Coco Gauff’s Exit and entrepreneurial leap

In April, Coco Gauff also ended her relationship with Team8, announcing the launch of her own venture, Coco Gauff Enterprises, backed by WME. The French Open champion emphasized her desire to expand her influence beyond tennis into business, philanthropy, and broader impact ventures.

“Today I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Coco Gauff Enterprises, a venture that reflects my passion for making an impact — not just in tennis, but in business, philanthropy, and beyond,” Coco Gauff shared on Instagram.

“Taking this big step forward also means closing the incredible chapter I have shared with Team8. I’ll always be grateful for everything they’ve done for me and my family.”

Roger Federer’s influence still revered

Though Roger Federer retired nearly three years ago, his influence continues to be deeply felt within the sport. Former French Open champion Michael Chang recently praised Federer and fellow legends Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for transforming locker-room culture into one built on mutual respect.

“Whether you are ranked No. 2 in the world or the 100th in doubles, they treated you the same,” Chang said. “They changed the culture very much so. On court, it’s business, but off court, they were kind to everybody.”

While Team8 now looks to re-strategize in the wake of two major departures, the brand power of Roger Federer and the legacy he’s built — both on and off the court — continues to influence the next generation.
