Daniil Medvedev has shrugged off Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal from the 2026 French Open, stating the absence of the world number one changes little for his own prospects at the clay-court Grand Slam.
Medvedev just brutally admitted he doesn’t care Alcaraz is out; drops most savage reality check
Alcaraz pulled out of Roland Garros on Saturday due to right wrist tenosynovitis, leaving a significant hole in the draw. In characteristically blunt remarks during a pre-tournament press conference, the Russian said he has never advanced beyond the quarter-finals at the event and has frequently exited in the opening rounds, meaning the top seed’s absence offers him no special advantage.
Medvedev explained his match-by-match mindset rather than focusing on the reshuffled draw. He said:
“It doesn’t really change anything for me.”
The Russian also wished Alcaraz a speedy recovery. Alcaraz’s injury-forced exit removes the defending champion and heavy favorite from the field, potentially opening pathways for players like Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. Medvedev, known for his analytical style and dry humor, will look to improve on his modest Roland Garros record as the clay season reaches its pinnacle in Paris.
