While noting his own competitive battles against one of these rising stars have grown increasingly intense, Wawrinka expressed a heartfelt hope to experience a first-time showdown against another standout from this elite new wave before hanging up his racket.

In his recent interview at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Wawrinka singled out Carlos Alcaraz alongside Jannik Sinner when praising the current young generation's exceptional level, describing it as "crazy high" and "crazy high level."
The former No. 3 player specifically expressed a personal hope to play Alcaraz at least once before retiring, highlighting his desire for that matchup as a fitting milestone in what appears to be his farewell season at age 40. He said:
“I had the chance to play Jannik many times. Last few times was really tough. Hopefully I can play Carlos once before I stop playing.”
Meanwhile, Wawrinka recently defeated Benjamin Hassan on Monday with a score of 7-5, 6-3 in the first round in the presence of 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who was in the stands cheering him on.
