Lakers' woes have been visible.

Lakers may add a Center to the side ahead of the start of the next season.

Despite having the best regular season in the last five years, the LA Lakers' campaign ended on a disappointing note. They could not cross the hurdle posed by the Minnesota Timberwolves and hence crashed out in five games of the round 1 playoff series. While they have a formidable squad, there are frailties that are quite visible in the team, which turned out to be the cause behind their eventual elimination. It goes without saying that the Lakers need a Center, who can contribute both offensively and defensively. As it is a widely addressed subject, the Lakers' front office may take the necessary step ahead of the start of the new season to build a squad that can compete for the championship.

Lakers Can Eye Mavericks' Star Center to Form Reunion with Luka Doncic

The Lakers' requirement has given birth to several assertions and rumors. As per a new entry, the Lakers can make the move to sign Mavericks' Center Derrick Lively II.

Ryan White of The Sporting News notes: "The number one priority for the Lakers should be to upgrade their frontcourt. Here’s a pitch—Pelinka should call his friend Nico Harrison of the Dallas Mavericks to propose a deal centered around Derrick Lively II."

Since Derreck Lively has played alongside Luka Doncic before, no compatibility issues will likely emerge if they reunite in LA.

The proposed deal could include Dalton Knecht, a promising rookie shooter, along with a 2024 second-round pick to add draft capital. Additionally, negotiations might intensify to include a potential 2026 first-round pick.

What Can Dereck Lively II Add to the Lakers' Side?

Derrick Lively II's skill set aligns perfectly with the Lakers' needs, offering valuable contributions in several key areas. He provides rim protection, averaging 1.4 blocks per game as a rookie, and excels in pick-and-roll situations, particularly with his chemistry with Luka Doncic, which could translate well to playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Additionally, Lively II brings energy and rebounding prowess, creating second-chance opportunities and adding a dynamic element to the team's offence and defense.
