India match South Africa's all-time ODI record after Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan's batting blitz vs Afghanistan

India dropped a brilliant batting show in their ongoing ODI clash against Afghanistan, which is being played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, June 17. It was a total dominating performance from India skipper Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan with their stunning knocks.

Team India levels South Africa's record in ODIs

Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bowl first against the hosts. However, the decision turned out to be a total nightmare for the visitors, as Indian batters dismantled their bowling attack. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal losing early, Rohit Sharma showed glimpses of his fine form with solid 48 runs off 39 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes.

Coming to a new batting position, skipper Shubman Gill recorded his maiden ODI century and stitched a brilliant partnership with Ishan Kishan, who scored amazing 125 runs off just 79 balls, smashing 14 boundaries and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 158.23, before losing his wicket to Nangeyalia Kharoti. On the other hand, Gill finished his knock at 154 off 110 balls, hitting 22 boundaries and two sixes before losing his wicket off Nangeyalia Kharoti. Riding on Ishan and Gill's brave effort, India managed to post 402 after the end of the first innings.

Notably, this was the eighth time when the Men in Blue breached the 400-run mark in ODI cricket. With this they have equalled South Africa for the most 400-plus total in the history of ODI cricket. Now England stand at the third place, having recorded the 400-plus total seven times.
