India’s veteran opener Rohit Sharma missed his 62nd half-century in ODIs but ended up achieving a rare List A feat in Indian cricket. Rashid ends Rohit’s aggressive stay at crease
In the second ODI of the series against Afghanistan at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, visiting skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rohit's opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for a single-digit score as skipper Shubman Gill chose to bat at no.3.
In the fourth over, Rohit slammed pacer Mohammad Saleem Safi for two consecutive sixes. Safi paid the price for bowling short without any pace to trouble Rohit. In the 14th over, he got bowled by Rashid Khan. The opener could not pick the googly on the back foot. After taking an inside edge off the bat, the ball crashed into the stumps. The opener's knock of 48 off 39 deliveries featured six fours and a couple of sixes. He shared an 87-run partnership for the second wicket with Gill.
Gill, Kishan score centuries
Gill and Ishan Kishan went on to score centuries. They shared a 224-run partnership for the third wicket. Kishan got a promotion up the order, ahead of Shreyas Iyer. He scored 125 runs from just 79 balls, featuring 14 fours and seven sixes. It was Kishan’s first ODI ton in four years.
