Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally revealed the winning prize for Team India after Suryakumar Yadav-led side defeated Pakistan by five wickets to lift the Asia Cup 2025 trophy on September 29. But BCCI opted a unique way of announcing the prize money as they not only made the announcement but also humiliated Pakistan in the process with a '3-0' jibe.
BCCI's bumper prize money for Asia Cup 2025-winner Team India
Besides the Asia Cup's original prize money, BCCI will hand over a sum of Rs 21 crore to the Indian team.
"3 blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Message delivered. 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff," BCCI's tweet read.
Rs 2.6 crore more for Team India
Notably, India will receive $300,000 (approximately Rs 2.6 crore) from ACC for winning the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. This represents a substantial increase in financial rewards, including a 50% jump from the 2023 edition, where India pocketed $250,000, and a sharp rise from the 2022 tournament prize of $200,000. The runner-up, Pakistan, did not go home empty-handed, either, with a prize purse of $150,000 (approximately Rs 1.3 crore) reserved for the finalists. Although the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has yet to make an official announcement, these revised payouts reflect the tournament's growing stature and commercial appeal in the global cricket calendar.
Alongside the team honors, the Asia Cup also provides lucrative cash prizes for individual awards. The Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards both come with substantial financial rewards. For instance, in the 2023 edition, India's Kuldeep Yadav earned $15,000 (Rs 12 lakh) as the standout performer of the tournament, while pacer Mohammed Siraj collected $5,000 (Rs 4.4 lakh) for his exceptional match-winning spell.
How the Asia Cup final unfolded?
India emerged victorious in the Asia Cup 2025 final, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This momentous win secured India their ninth Asia Cup title overall in the tournament's 17th edition. Crucially, it marked their second triumph in the Men's T20 Asia Cup format, following their previous win in 2016. Team India showcased consistent performance throughout the session, culminating in this grand finale victory where they lifted the coveted trophy once again.
Tilak Varma's masterclass in India's Asia Cup 2025 triumph
In the 147-run chase, India suffered an early collapse, losing Abhishek Sharma (5), captain Suryakumar Yadav (1), and Shubman Gill (12) within the first four overs, leaving the score at 20. However, Tilak Varma (69 off 53 balls) anchored the revival, first partnering with Sanju Samson (24) for a crucial 57-run stand off 50 balls. That partnership was broken when Abrar Ahmed dismissed Samson early in the 13th over.
Following Samson's departure, Varma teamed up with Shivam Dube (33 off 22 balls) for a match-winning 60-run, 40-ball fifth-wicket partnership that effectively took the contest away from Pakistan. Rinku Singh then made his mark, hitting the winning runs on the fourth ball of the 20th over bowled by a struggling Haris Rauf (0/50 in 3.4 overs).
Individual performances were key to India's success throughout the tournament. Abhishek Sharma played all seven matches, accumulating an impressive 314 runs, featuring 32 fours and 19 sixes, including three consecutive half-centuries in the Super Four stage. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav was dominant, accounting for 17 dismissals across seven matches. During the final, Kuldeep cemented his legacy by breaking Lasith Malinga’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup history and also equalled Ajantha Mendis' record for the most wickets taken in a single edition of the tournament.
