India captain Suryakumar Yadav had a touching moemnt with Sri Lanka's Dunith Wellage following the conclusion of the match between the two sides in Asia Cup. Notably, Wellalage had lost his father earlier this month due to a heart attack. The 22-year-old's father passed away while he was featuring in his side's group stage encounter against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka head coach Sanath Jayasuriya broke the tragic news to him and was also seen consoling the spinner after the match.

The video of Suryakumar's interaction with Wellalage made rounds on social media. In the video, the India skipper can be seen placing his hand on the latter's chest and sharing some words with him. Wellalage listened to him patiently and also contantly nodded his head in agreement to what Suryakumar was saying.

After learning about his father's passing, Wellalage headed back to Colombo, but rejoined the squad in UAE just days after. He was included in the playing XI for Sri Lanka's Super 4 match against Bangladesh, however he failed to pick up any wickets. As a result, he was dropped from the team for their next two matches of the tournament.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Kusal Medis in the very first over, but the 127-run stand between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera kept the side in the game. Nissanka would eventually go on to score a fine century, smacking Indian bowlers all around the stadium. He would be dismissed in the final over for 107 by Harshit Rana, however Dasun Shanaka's unbeaten cameo of 22 ensured that the match finished as a tie and was decided in the Super Over.

In reply, Suryakumar hit Wanindu Hasaranga for three runs on the very first delivery of the over to seal the victory for India and keep their unbeaten streak in the tournament alive. They will now be facing arch-rivals Pakistan in the all-important final that is set to take place on September 28.
