Maverick batter Virat Kohli and stylish stroke-maker KL Rahul scored scintillating centuries against Pakistan during the Asia Cup Super 4s match against arch-rivals Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 11 (Monday). Kohli breached the 13,000 ODI run mark with his 47 century in 50-over international cricket while Rahul cracked his sixth ton in ODIs. The Indian duo put on an absolute masterclass of stroke-making and Pakistan bowlers had no place to hide.
In the process of scoring 356/2 in 50 overs, India, Kohli and Rahul combined to break numerous records and scripted new milestones.
Let's take a look at some of the colossal records that were broken and the ones that were created:
276: Kohli became the fastest batter to score 13,000 runs in ODIs. The Indian batter reached the milestone in his 276th innings, going past Sachin Tendulkar's mark of 321 innings.
4: It was Virat Kohli's 4th consecutive ton in ODIs at the R Premadasa stadium and he became only the second batter after Hasim Amla to score 4 successive centuries at a venue in ODIs.
4: Kohli registered his 4th century in the ODI Asia Cup and tied Kumar Sangakkara's tally for the second spot. Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record for scoring the most tons (6) in the ODI Asia Cup.
2: It was only the second instance in Indian cricket history that the top four batters managed to score 50+ runs each against Pakistan in an ODI game. In 2017, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj had all scored 50+ runs against the Men in Green.
77: Kohli broke Sachin's mark of notching 77 international centuries in the quickest time. The former India skipper reached the milestone in his 561st international inning. Sachin had registered his 77th international ton on his 593rd inning.
4: Virat Kohli has been involved in four 150+ partnerships in the history of the Asia Cup, which is the most for any batter. Sachin, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma are part of two 150+ alliances in the Asia Cup.
233: Kohli and Rahul registered an unbeaten partnership of 233 runs for the third wicket. It is the highest partnership for any duo in the history of the Asia Cup.
