Rohit Sharma scripted history as he whacked a record century on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Friday (February 10),

The Hitman became the first Indian skipper to record a century in all formats as this was his maiden Test hundred as captain.

Rohit reached the mark off 171 balls on the back of 14 fours and two sixes as he became only the fourth skipper to record a century in all formats after Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis and Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

This was also Rohit’s first Test ton against Australia and sixth as an opener in just 21 innings. Overall, the 35-year-old has amassed over 3000 Test runs with nine centuries.

Rohit's last century had come against England in September 2021. This is the first time that Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian team in the historic Border Gavaskar Trophy. Prior to this Rohit participated in the series only as a player and this happens to be his first century in the history of Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Rohit now has nine Test centuries to his name, alongside 34 tons in the other two formats of international cricket. After India restricted the Aussies to a paltry total of 177, Rohit bolstered Indian innings and converted his brilliant Day 1 fifty into a scintillating century on Day 2. Despite wickets kept tumbling on the other end which saw KL Rahul (20 off 71), Ravichandran Ashwin (23 off 62), Cheteshwar Pujara (7 off 14), Virat Kohli (12 off 26) and Suryakumar Yadav (8 off 20) returning back to pavilion.

Riding on Rohit's robust knock, India are now steady on 210/5 after 74 overs.

Earlier, come-back man Jadeja, playing his first international match after recovering from a knee injury, grabbed five wickets as India bowled out Australia for 177 in their first innings just after Tea. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed three wickets while the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami picked a wicket each.
