Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has surpassed legendary cricketer Anil Kumble in an elite list after dismissing Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on Day 1 of the second and final Test of the two-match series which is being played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, on Septemeber 29 (Friday). Ashwin won the Player of the Match in the first Test match for his astonishing and match-winning performance with both bat and ball and he looked to continue that in this match as well.

 

Ashwin surpasses Kumble

 

Ravichandran Ashwin has now become the second-leading wicket-taker in Test matches on the Asian soil. He surpassed Anil Kumble to reach second place on the list of most Test wickets in Asia. Prior to this match, both Ashwin and Kumble has 419 wickets in Asia and after Ashwin got the wicket of Shanto on Day 1, he got over Kumble in the list.

Now talking about the match, Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first after winning the toss. This turned out to be the right decision as they managed to get the first breakthrough by the 9th over itself with Akash Deep dismissing Zakir Hasan on a 24-ball duck. The host struck again and got the second wicket just 22 balls later and this time it was Shadnam Islam returning to the dugout after scoring 24 off 36 balls. By the 13th over, Akash Deep had dismissed both Bangladesh openers and gave India a good start. Before lunch, Bangladesh were 76/2
 

India got their third wicket into the third over after the lunch, this time it was veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin who got a wicket as he dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on just 31 runs. Rain once again stopped the game and at the time of writing this copy, Bangladesh is batting on 107/3 by 35 overs.
