Before playing in the T20I series against England, Mohammed Shami took part in the first practice session. With the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the UAE looming, the speedster, who has not featured for the national side since the ODI World Cup final against Australia back in November 2023, would be eager to make an impression. Shami bowled hard during the practice session prior to the first T20I on January 22 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. The speedster has shown encouraging signs before making a return to International cricket.

BCCI posted a special video of Shami's first practice session with the Indian cricket team to celebrate the veteran pacer's return. The clip showed Shami bowling in nets, taking part in drills and even having a good chat with bowling coach Morne Morkel. The clip ended with Shami giving autographs to fans present at the Eden Gardens to watch their practice.
Since Shami is a member of the Champions Trophy team, all eyes were on him. Additionally, the management of the squad desired that the seasoned player be included in the pace battery. Former South African pacer Morne Morkel, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also attended Shami's practice. The Bengal pacer's desire to get better was evident as he was observed having a long conversation with Morkel.
India, who will play England in the T20I series, will greatly benefit from Shami's comeback to the national squad. The team, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, will try to create a big impression following the BCCI's implementation of stringent rules and regulations. Young pacer Arshdeep Singh, meanwhile, was absent from the practice session, missing the first day's activities. According to sources, Arshdeep is anticipated to join the team on Sunday evening and start practicing on Monday.
