In a big blow to Pakistan, their star batter Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the crucial ODI World Cup encounter against Australia which is slated to be held in Bengaluru on October 20.

 

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the news as Zaman Khan will be missing the action due to knee injury. The star opener is being treated for a knee injury and is likely to be available for selection in the next game.

Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha experienced a bout of fever following Wednesday's training session however he is well on his way to recovery and will be available for the match against Australia.

 

Zaman has played just one match in the ongoing ODI World Cup, which was Pakistan's tournament opener against the Netherlands in Hyderabad. In that game, he managed to score mere 12 runs. Abdullah Shafique replaced him in the following match and delivered a remarkable performance with 113 runs against Sri Lanka and followed it up with a solid 20-run contribution against India.

 

As for the rest of the members in the 15-player squad, they are in good health.

In the lead-up to their World Cup match against Australia, several Pakistani players had been grappling with fever, leading to the absence of six squad members during their initial training session on Tuesday. Those players who decided to take a break on Tuesday included Abdullah Shafique, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Haris, and Zaman Khan.

 

After undergoing a comprehensive assessment by Dr. Saleem, the medical officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), five of the aforementioned players were declared fit to rejoin the training session on Wednesday. Consequently, all players from the Pakistan squad, with the exception of Mohammad Haris, who continued his recovery from fever, actively participated in the training.

 

As far as performances of both the teams are concerned, Having secured four points from three matches and maintaining a net run rate of -0.137, Pakistan currently hold the fourth position in the points table. Meanwhile, Australia, positioned at seventh place, have garnered two points from an equal number of matches and possesses a net run rate of -0.734.
