ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 in India witnessed a run-fest. As many as seven batters scored more than 500 runs in the tournament. The record for most runs in a single ODI World Cup edition was broken as well.
Here is a list of the top five run-getters in the ODI World Cup 2023 –
5) New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell was in fine form and took them out of tricky situations playing a massive role in helping them reach the semifinals. Mitchell scored 552 runs from nine innings at an average of 69 including two centuries and two half-centuries. His strike rate was an impressive 111.06. He also scored a century in a losing cause against India in the semifinal at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

4) Rachin Ravindra would not have been a part of New Zealand's World Cup squad had Michael Bracewell not been injured. As skipper Kane Williamson missed a few matches due to injuries, Ravindra bolstered New Zealand’s batting lineup. He also became the highest run-scorer in an ODI World Cup edition before turning 25. The 24-year-old scored 578 runs from 10 innings at an average of 64.22 including three centuries and two half-centuries.
3) It was hard to believe that Quinton de Kock did not have a World Cup century to his name before the 2023 edition. De Kock went on a century-hitting spree scoring four, the most by any batter in the World Cup. In his final World Cup, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 594 runs from 10 innings at an average of 59.40.
2) Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored just one century but had a massive impact with his attacking approach. He scored runs at a strike rate of 125.94 and put the pressure on new-ball bowlers. He also hit a record-breaking 31 sixes in the tournament. From 11 innings, he scored 597 runs at an average of 54.27 including one century and three fifties.
1) No batter came close to Virat Kohli on the list. Once again, he proved why he is called a modern-day great. He broke the record for most ODI centuries and most runs scored in a World Cup edition. Both records belonged to ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar. He scored 765 runs from 11 innings at a stupendous average of 95.62 including three centuries and six fifties. In only two matches, he could not score more than 50 runs. While Kohli could not lift the World Cup trophy, he won the ‘Player of the tournament’ award.
