India head coach Gautam Gambhir who came back to India after the Jasprit Bumrah-led side's dominating win in the first Test match against Australia has travelled back to join the India squad before the upcoming pink ball Test which is scheduled to start from December 4 in Adelaide.
Team India are currently leading 1-0 against Australia in the ongoing five-Test match series. The second Test match between India and Australia will be a pink ball day/night clash. India captain Rohit Sharma who missed the first Test match because he was on paternity leave has joined the squad and all set to lead the side against Baggy Greens.
Apart from Rohit, Shubman Gill who fractured his thumb during India's practice session is also fit and set to feature in the second Test. In Rohit's absence, Jasprit Bumrah led the side and KL Rahul batted on his spot alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Devdutt Padikkal also featured in the first Test in place of the injured Gill.
KL Rahul who played in place of Rohit had done well with the bat. Yashasvi and KL Rahul stitched a historic partnership of 201 runs which is the highest first wicket partnership by an Indian. KL Rahul made a promising start in the first innings with a score of 26(74) before his controversial dismissal, and in his second turn, he left the spectators mesmerised with a composed 77(176).
Since Rohit joined the squad now there have been few questions rising on KL Rahul's batting position and even India's Test legend Cheteshwar Pujara suggested the management to not to tinker around with openers.
After Pujara's suggestion, India captain Rohit Sharma who was supposed to open India's innings during their pink ball warm-up game against Austalia Prime Minister XI featured at number six as KL Rahul opened the innings alongside Jaiswal.
With the return of captain and opener Rohit, Gambhir will ponder the combination that would be best suited for India in the second Test.
