India wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul who was featured as an opener in the last two Test matches against Australia will likely bat in the middle order in the upcoming third Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India captain Rohit who missed the first Test match citing personal reasons has sacrificed his spot in the second Test after joining the team for a pink-ball Test but the experiment of Rohit batting at number six failed as he just scored 3 and 6 runs in two innings of Adelaide Test.
KL Rahul scored 103 runs in the first Test match against Australia and the batter scored 44 runs in the second Test match where India bundled out on just 180 runs in the first innings.
After India's poor batting performance in the pink-ball (second) Test, Australia defeated the visitors by 10 wickets to level the ongoing five-Test match series. Now both teams are focussing on the third Test match which is scheduled to start from December 14.

While practising for the Gabba Test, there were indications that Rohit would be back in the opening slot for the upcoming clash.
As per TOI, Rohit who is currently going through a rough patch in the longest format of the game has spent time facing the new ball during India's training sessions in Brisbane. India's captain faced legendary speedster Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep with the new ball during net sessions.
Rohit has failed to perform from a very long time, the Indian skipper has gone above 20 just twice in his past 12 Test innings with only one half-century, with eight single-digit scores.
If Rohit opens alongside Jaiswal then KL Rahul will play at number six in the upcoming Test match. The ongoing Test series is important for India to qualify for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final which will take place next year in England. India needs to win all their remaining matches of the ongoing series to seal their berth for the WTC final for the third consecutive time.
