"It is an out-of-the-world feeling. To become the number one bowler, I never dreamed of this. Now that I'm there, I'm feeling good about it and I hope to continue performing for the team and helping the team win," the 23-year-old said.
Bishnoi who made his T20I debut against West Indies has featured in 21 T20Is so far taking 34 wickets including a four-fer. His economy rate is outstanding at 7.14 and is one of the contenders to play in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.
"I debuted on February 15 and the journey has had its ups and downs but the last 1-1.5 years have been good since I got to play some good games, played in the Asian Games and Asia Cup as well," Bishnoi said.
Bishnoi will be seen in action again when India take on Aiden Markram-led South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban on December 10. He is just happy to get opportunities as there are several contenders for the spot.
"It has been that I got opportunities and when I do I hope to play well. This is more of the efforts from the last five years coming to fruition. Now after that, it has been good so far and I am enjoying it," the Jodhpur-born bowler added.
Bishnoi has a rating of 699, seven more than Afghanistan's Rashid Khan who is currently out of action injured. It will be interesting to see for how long Bishnoi will be able to maintain his top spot.
