Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced Team India's Test squad for the upcoming West Indies tour which is slated to start from July 12. 

 

India's batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally been awarded for his exploits as he has been give chance in the Caribbean tour. Meanwhile in a shocking move Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped from the Test set up after his torrid outing in the just-concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Notably, Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as Rohit Sharma's deputy for the two-match Test series.

 

Mohammed Shami has also been dropped from India's Test squad. However, earlier it was reported that the star pacer will be rested from this tour in order to manage his workload ahead of a busy international calendar. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad also found a place in the 15-member strong squad after his batting exploits in the IPL 2023 for CSK. Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat have been included to take care of the gloves work.

 

After a stunning comeback, Rahane will be seen in the vice-captaincy role which he truly deserves. Rahane impressed with his batting prowess in the WTC final against Australia which the former lost by 209 runs. Rahane notched the scores of 89 and 46 but couldn't save India from going down to Australia. Notably, he made a return to Indian team after a nearly year-and-a-half-long break after being snubbed from India's Test set-up in the series against Sri Lanka in February 2022.

 

When many thought Rahane ran out of steam, the veteran grinded through the domestic cricket and IPL 2023.
 

India’s Test squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), KS Bharat (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.

 

The Test series between India and West Indies will kick start from July 12 in Dominica. The second Test will be get underway from July 20 at Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain. Notably, Team India had the last laugh in their previous Test series against West Indies as they whitewashed the Caribbeans 2-0 back in 2019.
