Few days back India's star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan withdrew from the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which is slated to start from June 28 in Bengaluru. The decision left everyone surprised as to why Kishan's opted out of playing for East Zone in the domestic tournament.
In a big revelation, the reason behind Kishan's bold call has come to the fore which is he along with few other contracted players will check into the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru next week, for Strength & Conditioning (S&C) related work ahead of Team India's departure for the Caribbean for a multi-format series against West Indies.
India will play two Tests, three ODIs and five one-day internationals against the West Indies commencing from July 12. Notably India team is expected to leave for Caribbeans on July 3.
"Ishan is not skipping the Duleep Trophy (due to other reasons). Instead, he is heading to the NCA to train there either from Monday or Tuesday, as he will most likely go on the West Indies tour," a source privy to the development revealed as reported by IANS.
Duleep Trophy scheduled to be held entirely in Bengaluru from June 28 and the final to be played from July 12-16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
With the East Zone taking on the Central Zone in the first quarterfinal at Alur in Bengaluru, the 24-year-old had the opportunity to play one game with the red-ball before the Indian team’s departure for the Caribbean tour.
Notably, Team India last travelled to West Indies for the multi-format tour back in 2019 when the clinched victorious in all the format.
East Zone's squad for Duleep Trophy: Abhimanyu Easwaran (captain), Santanu Mishra, Sudip Gharami, Riyan Parag, A. Majumdar, Bipin Saurabh, A Porel (wk), K Kushagra (wk), Shahbaz Nadeem (vc), Shahbaz Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Anukul Roy, M Mura Singh, Ishan Porel.
