The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is tentatively scheduled to take place from March 22 to May 26. Players will have a week to rest before the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in June in the West Indies and USA.

This year marks the 17th edition of the IPL, which began in 2008. Many players earn large sums of money in the tournament.

Let’s take a look at the salaries of all 10 IPL captains for the IPL 2024 season.

KL Rahul

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul earns INR 17 crore, making him the highest-paid IPL captain currently. LSG signed him before their first IPL season in 2022. Rahul led LSG to two consecutive playoffs.
Previously, Virat Kohli also earned INR 17 crore per season as captain of RCB from 2018 to 2021. However, after stepping down as RCB captain, Kohli's salary was reduced to INR 15 crore.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is likely to return after his injuries from a car crash. He is expected to lead the Delhi Capitals (DC) as captain. In 2022, DC chose to keep Pant instead of Shreyas Iyer, paying him INR 16 crore per season. Pant missed IPL 2023 due to the accident.

Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians (MI) made Hardik Pandya their captain for IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma. He is their most successful captain with 5 trophies. Pandya led the Gujarat Titans (GT) for two seasons, where they won one IPL title and finished as runners-up. He was paid INR 15 crore during his time with them. Although his salary with MI will stay the same as he joined through a trade, he is rumoured to have received a generous amount as part of the trade deal.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson was the first retention for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022, with a contract worth INR 14 crore, and was appointed as their new captain. He led them to the runner-up position in IPL 2022.

MS Dhoni

Before IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni agreed to lower his salary from INR 15 crore to 12 crore. This decision enabled Ravindra Jadeja to be retained as the first player for INR 16 crore. Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL trophy last year, and IPL 2024 might be his final season.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is set to make his IPL comeback after sitting out last season due to a back injury. He was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 auction for INR 12.25 crore and appointed as their captain. While Nitish Rana served as KKR's captain last season, Iyer will now reassume the role.

Shikhar Dhawan

Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired Shikhar Dhawan for INR 8.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. He served as their captain last season and will continue in the same role this year.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been named as the new captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) after Hardik Pandya’s move to MI. Gill joined GT before IPL 2022 with a salary of INR 8 crore.

Faf du Plessis

RCB acquired Faf du Plessis for INR 7 crore during the IPL 2022 auction and named him their new captain following Virat Kohli's resignation.

Aiden Markram

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Aiden Markram has the lowest salary among IPL captains this year, earning INR 2.6 crore. He was appointed as SRH's skipper last season but was unable to lead them to the playoffs. With Pat Cummins joining SRH, it remains uncertain if Markram will retain his position as skipper, as no announcement or confirmation has been made yet.
