IPL 2024: Yuzvendra Chahal pips Jasprit Bumrah to become leader in purple cap race, Kagiso Rabada leaves Mustafizur Rahman behind

The all-time highest wicket-taker in IPL history, Yuzvendra Chahal, is currently leading the purple cap race with Jasprit Bumrah as his close competitor.

Jasprit Bumrah is likely to take the purple cap back from Yuzvendra Chahal.

A few changes should are expected in the purple cap race after the double header on April 14.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took just one wicket against Punjab Kings (PBKS) to take the purple cap from Jasprit Bumrah. Chahal is now leading the race with 11 wickets from six games.
 

There was another change in the purple cap race. PBKS pacer Kagiso Rabada with an economical two-wicket spell moved to the third spot surpassing Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) Mustafizur Rahman and Delhi Capitals' (DC) Khaleel Ahmed. Rabada has nine wickets from six games. 
 

Two other PBKS bowlers closed in on the top five in IPL purple cap race. Arshdeep Singh has nine wickets from six games as well. PBKS' stand-in captain Sam Curran took two wickets and moved to the seventh spot. The English all-rounder has eight wickets from six games.

Changes expected in purple cap race

A few changes are expected on April 14 as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) go up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the first game, LSG's Yash Thakur will look to break into top five. Thakur has seven wickets from four games including a five-wicket haul he registered against Gujarat Titans (GT) earlier this week.

Bumrah is likely to take the purple cap from Chahal. Bangladesh pacer Rahman is expected to move up too and move past Rabada. MI's overseas pacer Gerald Coetzee has a chance to enter the top five. Coetzee has eight wickets from five games.
