In a massive announcement just before the start of the IPL 2022, MS Dhoni decided that he will hand over the captaincy reins to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.


"MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2021, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond," CSK said in a statement.


Jadeja, who has played for Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be the third player to lead CSK. Previously, Raina and Dhoni had led the CSK franchise.


MS Dhoni will continue to play for CSK. Previously, Dhoni had helped CSK in winning four IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021). The former Indian skipper led CSK in 204 matches in IPL. He won 121 matches out of the 204 matches and lost in 82 games as one match ended without a result. Dhoni has a win percentage of 59.60.



CSK in IPL 2022

Defending champions CSK will play in the inaugural match of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26, at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. The final match of the IPL is slated to be played on May 29.


Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma will have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.


On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.


New entrants

With the addition of two new teams, this year’s IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new entrants.
