After a forgettable Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), David Warner feels that he won’t be retained by the franchise. Warner also revealed that he will put in his name in the mega auction before the next edition of IPL which will introduce two new teams, making it a 10-team tournament.

"I will put my name in the auction. By the signs of the recent IPL, I won’t be retained by the Sunrisers, so I’m looking forward to a fresh start,” the former SRH skipper told SEN radio station from Dubai.

Warner was first sacked during the first leg of the season. In the second phase, he was included in the side for two games but dismal performances led to him warming the benches for the rest of the season.

Warner has been having a hard time in the ongoing T20 World Cup as well. In the warm-up matches he registered scores of 0 and 1 against New Zealand and India. In Australia’s first Super 12 match, he struggled against South Africa and managed to score just 14 runs in a low-scoring run chase.

This season was Warner’s worst since 2009, where he scored 163 runs from seven games. In 2021, he managed 195 runs from eight games at an average of 24.36 including two half-centuries. His strike rate of 107.73 was a big reason in him getting dropped from the side to make way for other overseas batters.

Before a bad run in this season, Warner led SRH to title win in IPL 2016. He scored 848 runs from 17 games at an average of 60.57 including nine half-centuries. From 2014-2020, Warner was one of the best batters of the IPL, scoring more than 500 runs in each season.
