Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) batting juggernaut Virat Kohli has been oozing runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and is the second leading run scorer in the tournament so far. Kohli has amassed 300 runs in a total of eight matches riding on five stunning half centuries. Kohli's recent exploits came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when he struck a magnificent 54 off 37, however, RCB lost the match despite his heroics. Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has reignited Kohli's slow strike rate debate as he said that the star RCB batter isn't looking to score more 143.57 this season after 8 matches. boundaries against spinners.
"A lot of teams are going to bowl spin against Virat because of his strike rate against them. I think he has a 107 strike rate against spin. So most teams are going to bowl spin against Virat Kohli and they are going to put three fielders at the mid-wicket," Vaughan said in a chat on Cricbuzz after the match.
Vaughan also didn't shy off away from underlining Kohli's need to look for more boundaries against spinners which might put RCB in a risk at times.
"I think his mindset after the powerplay is almost to be there at the 18th (over). I don't think he is thinking about boundaries enough. I think he can (hit boundaries) because he is got the game, the power and the timing to be able to go and hit the six," he said.
The 48-year-old also said that the Men in Maroon can't rely on cameos from middle-order to achieve big totals.
"They can't rely on the cameos from that middle-order. He (Virat Kohli) is going to continue with the mentor of that first six. It's like a team take a couple of more risks," he concluded.
RCB have played eight matches so far and have garnered just eight points with four victories and as many defeats and are placed fifth on the IPL points table.
