A new report by a leading cricket media agency circulating in the media on Sunday has said that the Mumbai Indians (MI) are facing yet another injury issue and have brought in England veteran pacer Chris Jordan as a replacement for one of their injured foreigners.
The news emerged a day after head coach Mark Boucher confirmed that their other star Englishman in Jofra Archer was fit and in contention for selection for their match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. Archer has had an injury-ridden season and has taken only one wicket in the two matches that he has played this season.
Meanwhile, Jordan has turned out for the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. He has played 28 matches and has taken 27 wickets at an economy rate of 9.32. His best figures are 4/11.
Boucher, during the press conference ahead of the match against RR, confirmed that Archer flew to Belgium to get elbow surgery done. Archer quashed those reports and slammed the journalist for false reporting. However, a few days later, MI head coach Mark Boucher confirmed the reports saying that Archer did go to Belgium for minor surgery.
"Yes, he was (in Belgium for surgery)," Boucher said. "I believe it was a minor surgery," he told the reporters ahead of the clash against Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Boucher did not divulge more details about the procedure as he said, "I have things to look after".
However, Boucher did confirm that Archer is fit and available for selection for the Royals clash. "We all know what Jofra can do. He's been a fantastic bowler for many years now. So, he adds a different dimension to our attack. Obviously, a good pace. He can bowl with the new ball and he's very good at the death as well. It (death overs) is one area where we've struggled a bit. So, he can hopefully come in and fulfil that role, bowling in those situations," the 46-year-old said.
