The Indian Premier League's (IPL) 16th edition has proven to be even more exciting than usual at the end of 18 matches. The 10 franchises involved have provided a lot of breath-taking moment entertainment to their loyal supporters, and after 13 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, the table is no closer to taking shape as the teams keep fighting for ultimate glory.
Hardik Pandya returned as the Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a hard-fought six-wicket win over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 13 (Thursday). As a result, the last season's champions moved above the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to third position in the points table.
When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, last season's winner Yuzvendra Chahal is still in the lead while Rashid Khan retook the second spot from Mark Wood. The two are tied on nine wickets each. Meanwhile, his teammate Alzarri Joseph is also in the top five after he bagged the wicket of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and took his tally for the season to seven.
Here we look at the five bowlers with the most wickets in IPL 2023.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner has bagged 10 wickets in four matches. Chahal has accounted for one four-wicket haul in the competition this year.
2. Rashid Khan: He got one wicket against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) but it was the important one of Matthew Short, who was going strong on 36 off 24. The Titans leg-spinner has accounted for nine wickets in four matches and is second on the highest wicket-takers list.
3. Mark Wood: Lucknow Super Giants' overseas pacer has started the tournament in sublime form. Wood has nine wickets in three matches. The right-arm pacer has accounted for one five-wicket haul as well.
4. Alzarri Joseph: Part of a solid bowling unit, Alzarri has proven himself this season with his seven wickets in four games for the Gujarat Titans.
5. Arshdeep Singh: The Team India pacer bagged the wicket of B Sai Sudharsan. Though it was not enough to lead Punjab Kings to victory, he managed to break into the top five with his seven wickets.
