'It represents the true Gujarati in us,' Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya reveals the significance of team's name

The 15th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start next month and the mega auctions for the IPL 2022 will take place in Bengaluru, on February 12 and February 13. With the advent of two new teams- Ahmedabad and Lucknow, ten teams will be seen vying for the prestigious trophy in the 15th edition of IPL 2022.

 

Previously, the Ahmedabad team management had announced India all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the upcoming edition of IPL and on February 9, the team management also announced the official name of their team. The Ahmedabad-based team will be known as ‘Gujarat Titans.’

 

Apart from Pandya, the team management had also roped in players like- Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan (Rs 15 Crore) and Indian batsman Shubman Gill (Rs 8 Crore). 

 

 

Pandya speaks

While talking about the new name, Pandya shared his feelings and said that “it represents the true Gujarati in us.”

 

“The name is great. It has an impact. And it represents the true Gujarati in us. It’s a very proud moment. My family is also happy," Hardik was quoted while talking to Star Sports.

 

Pandya had previously been an intergral part of Mumbai Indians team and while talking about his past experience with Mumbai Indians, he said that “it will always be close to my heart.” Though the Gujarat-born cricketer expressed that it is “very special” for him to represent his home team.

 

“Obviously, before this, I played for Mumbai Indians. It will always be close to my heart. But to represent my home team and that too to lead the side is something very special. I am very happy,” the 28-year-old all-rounder further revealed.

 

 

KL Rahul the leader

Apart from the Gujarat-side, Lucknow had previously announced KL Rahul’s name as their skipper for the upcoming edition of IPL.

 

Lucknow team had earlier signed Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (Rs 9.2 Crore) and Indian bowler Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 4 Crore).

The Lucknow team also appointed former India batsman and World Cup-winning cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of their side. 

 

The Gujarat team on the other hand, had announced Ashish Nehra as head coach, Gary Kirsten as the mentor and batting coach and Vikram Solanki as the director of cricket.
