Mumbai Indians (MI) players should thank their stars that they were handed the wicket of in-form Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Devon Conway due to an umpiring blunder and lack of technology. Conway was stunned by the umpire Chirra Ravikanthreddy raising his finger when Daniel Sams’ in-swinging delivery was clearly going down the leg.
Conway was helpless at that stage as there was no Decision Review System (DRS) available. The Kiwi opener had a word with Ruturaj Gaikwad but had to walk back to the dressing room because of the lack of technology.
The reason why DRS was not available in the MI vs CSK clash was because of powercut at the Wankhede stadium, Mumbai. Earlier there was a slight delay in coin toss as well because one of the floodlights had gone off.
Conway got out for a golden duck to Sams. The left-handed opener had scored three half-centuries since his return to the team. In the previous game, Conway scored a match-winning knock of 87 against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Defending champions CSK suffered a collapse early in the powerplay overs. Sams got the wicket of Moeen Ali in his first over. In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah trapped Robin Uthappa in front of the wickets. Uthappa wanted to review as well but DRS was not available. However, the veteran looked like he was plump. CSK were reduced to 5/3 in 1.4 overs.
It will be interesting to see if DRS will be available in the clash if the power comes back on. It may turn out to be unfair on MI if one of the decisions against CSK is reversed.
