CSK vs SRH Today Match Results: Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Chennai Super Kings by five wickets to keep their slim playoff chances alive in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on April 25. Notably, this was SRH's first ever win over CSK at the MA Chidambaram stadium. Chepauk Stadium is no longer a fortress for CSK, given their dismal outing at the venue in the ongoing IPL 2025. The fortress has now been breached on multiple occasions, starting with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), followed by Delhi Capitals (DC), then Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and most recently, SRH.
SRH crush CSK by 5 wickets
Batting first CSK could only post a total of 154 riding on Dewald Brevis' fiery 25-ball 42, thanks to Harshal Patel's sizzling spell of 4/28. In reply, SRH chased down the target with eight balls to spare to condemn CSK to seventh defeat in the season. With this win SRH moved to seventh spot in the IPL 2025 points table with three wins in a total of nine matches while CSK remained stagnant at last spot.
CSK will next face Punjab Kings on April 30 at the MA Chidambaram stadium while SRH will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 2 at the Narendra Modi stadium.
In pursuit of the target, Sunrisers Hyderabad experienced a similar shaky start to that of Chennai Super Kings, losing an early wicket when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck by Khaleel Ahmed in the very first over. Travis Head then contributed a quickfire 19 runs, punctuated by four boundaries, before falling victim to Anshul Kamboj in the sixth over.
CSK's spin bowlers exerted their dominance during the middle overs, with Ravindra Jadeja claiming the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen for a mere 7 runs in the ninth over, thanks to an impressive catch by Deepak Hooda. However, Ishan Kishan anchored SRH's innings, ultimately becoming the highest scorer for the visitors with a valuable knock of 44 runs off just 34 balls, which included five boundaries and a six.
Aniket Verma then chipped in with a useful contribution of 19 runs, adding a brief partnership with Kamindu Mendis before losing his wicket to Noor Ahmad but it was too late for CSK till then. Ahmad emerged as the standout bowler for the hosts, securing two wickets, while Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed one scalp.
CSK batters surrender to Harshal Patel's sizzling four-fer
Earlier, Harshal Patel delivered a stellar bowling performance, claiming four crucial wickets, as SRH effectively restricted the five-time champions CSK to a modest total of 154. In what was widely considered a critical must-win game for both franchises, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers executed their strategies with precision, successfully stifling the Chennai Super Kings' batting lineup on their home turf.
Harshal Patel's clever variations in pace proved highly effective, and he received excellent support from his fellow bowlers, including skipper Pat Cummins, the versatile ambidextrous spinner Kamindu Mendis, and the experienced duo of Mohammed Shami and Jaydev Unadkat.
For Chennai Super Kings, Dewald Brevis emerged as the top scorer, while Deepak Hooda contributed some powerful shots towards the end of the innings, helping the team surpass the 150-run mark. After being put in to bat, CSK endured a disastrous start, losing Shaik Rasheed off the very first ball of the innings. Rasheed edged a delivery from Mohammed Shami, which was expertly caught by Abhishek Sharma at first slip. It was a classic Test match dismissal, with the ball pitching on a good length outside off-stump and subtly moving away, enticing the batsman into a tentative poke.
Despite the early setback, young Ayush Mhatre displayed aggressive intent, scoring boundaries freely against the bowling of Shami, SRH captain Pat Cummins, and Jaydev Unadkat. However, CSK suffered another blow when Sam Curran top-edged a delivery from Harshal Patel, resulting in an easy catch for Aniket Verma at deep midwicket.
More trouble awaited Chennai Super Kings as the well-set Ayush Mhatre was caught by Ishan Kishan off Pat Cummins in the sixth over. This left the hosts struggling at 50 for 3 at the end of the powerplay on a pitch that appeared to be on the slower side.
In the seventh over, there was a moment of reprieve for CSK when Harshal Patel dropped a straightforward catch off Zeeshan Ansari, giving Ravindra Jadeja a second chance. The experienced Indian all-rounder capitalized on this lifeline by smashing Ansari for a towering six over long-on.
However, Jadeja's innings was short-lived as Kamindu Mendis struck back, clean bowling him soon after. At the halfway stage of their innings, Chennai Super Kings had managed to reach 76 for four wickets in 10 overs.
But Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis had different intentions, as they launched a counter-attack against the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers with their powerful hitting. In the 11th over, Dube struck Mohammed Shami for two elegant boundaries through the covers, while Brevis followed up by hitting Kamindu Mendis for three maximums in the subsequent over, helping to maintain a decent run rate. Making his debut in the side, Brevis looked dangerous, hitting Harshal Patel for another six before his innings was ended by a brilliant catch from Mendis at long-off. This dismissal triggered a collapse of the CSK batting order, as Dube was caught by Abhishek Sharma at long-on off the bowling of Jaydev Unadkat in the very next over. Then came MS Dhoni, playing in his landmark 400th T20 match, but even he couldn't provide the much-needed impetus to the CSK innings. The veteran batsman edged a delivery from Harshal Patel straight to Abhishek Sharma at point. Towards the end of the innings, Deepak Hooda put in a valiant effort to lift the score and managed to take Chennai Super Kings past the 150-run mark
