GT vs LSG Today Match Results: Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants gave the table-toppers Gujarat Titans a reality check just before the IPL 2025 playoffs with a commanding 33-run win in their IPL 2025 encounter at the Narendra Modi stadium.
Mitchell Marsh's maiden IPL century and Nicholas Pooran's lightning fifty helped the already eliminated LSG post a colossal total of 235/2. In reply, GT despite a cracking start ran out of steam in the end and were limited to 202/9
This was LSG's first win after suffering four successive defeats but they remained stagnant at seventh spot in the points table. Meanwhile, GT recorded their fourth loss of the season, however despite the defeat they are reigning supreme on top of the standings.
GT's final league match will be against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 25 while LSG will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 27 in their campaign-ending match.
For the Gujarat Titans (GT), chasing a formidable target of 236 runs meant they needed to start strong, a scenario Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan hadn't frequently faced this IPL season. Though they didn't hit any sixes, nine boundaries off 27 balls kept the openers in sync with the chase. However, Sudharsan's dismissal in the fifth over, unable to keep a drive down, marked the first setback. Jos Buttler then came out firing, scoring 33 off 17 balls before Akash Singh bowled him with a superb slower inswinger.
With their top three batsmen dismissed for under 96 runs, the Titans lacked the crucial foundation typically needed for such a large chase. Shahrukh Khan attempted a valiant effort, smashing a blistering fifty off just 22 balls, but ultimately, the Titans lost by 33 runs to the already-eliminated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Between himself and Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh had added a rapid 69 runs in 33 balls, leaving the Titans needing 71 runs from the final 30 deliveries for a spectacular victory. Shahrukh ignited this phase by aggressively swinging at an Akash Deep delivery, which took a thick edge and flew over short third man for a four. The very next ball, he hit a straight six, contributing to a 17-run over for the Titans. However, in the subsequent over, Rutherford failed to connect cleanly with a flick off his pads, holing out to Ravi Bishnoi, who completed a sharp catch from deep midwicket. Rahul Tewatia also had a chance to salvage his lackluster season but departed cheaply, leaving Shahrukh with an insurmountable task from one end. Ultimately, GT had to pay the price for these late dismissals.
Earlier, Mitchell Marsh's sensational maiden ton topped with blistering half-century from Nicholas Pooran propelled LSG to a formidable total of 235/2 in their 20 overs against GT.
GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. LSG's opening pair, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, provided an excellent start, forging a 50-run partnership within the powerplay, as LSG reached 53 for no loss, with Markram being the more aggressive scorer. Immediately after the powerplay, Marsh launched an assault on Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna, smashing him for a six and a four. He then brought up his sixth IPL fifty of the season in the 10th over, hitting a six off Sai Kishore to reach the milestone in just 33 balls. However, Kishore quickly retaliated in the same over, dismissing Markram for 36 off 24 balls, an innings that included three fours and two sixes. Nicholas Pooran then joined Marsh at the crease, announcing his arrival by hitting Kishore for a six off his very first delivery. At the halfway mark, LSG were comfortably positioned at 97/1.
Marsh continued his dominant display, taking on veteran spinner Rashid Khan and plundering 25 runs in an over, which included two sixes and three fours. LSG crossed the 150-run mark in the 15th over, scoring 13 runs off Kishore, ending the over at 160/1. The Marsh-Pooran duo maintained their aggressive onslaught, smashing 20 runs off Mohammed Siraj's final over. Marsh then brought up his maiden IPL century in just 56 balls in the 17th over. The pair's incredible partnership for the second wicket yielded 100 runs in a mere 42 balls. Pooran continued his strong form in IPL 2025, reaching his fifth fifty of the season in just 23 balls. Arshad Khan finally broke the massive partnership, dismissing Marsh for a magnificent 117 off 64 balls, an innings laced with ten fours and eight sixes.
LSG captain Rishabh Pant came to the crease for the final two overs and made an immediate impact, smashing Rabada for two sixes as LSG posted a daunting total of 235/2 in their 20 overs. In the bowling department for Gujarat, Sai Kishore (1/34) was the most effective. Arshad Khan also claimed a wicket, but the rest of the GT bowlers went wicketless.
