Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bulldozed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 110 runs to finish the IPL 2025 season on a high. This devastating defeat marks the defending champion's biggest loss in IPL history while it was SRH's second biggest win in the glitzy league.
Heinrich Klaasen put on a spectacular batting display for SRH, smashing a 37-ball century against KKR. His incredible innings powered SRH to a colossal total of 278/3 in 20 overs, which stands as the third-highest score in the history of the tournament. The South African batter remained unbeaten on 105 off just 39 balls, an innings that included seven fours and nine sixes.
After opting to bat first, SRH got off to a flying start thanks to Travis Head, who scored 76 runs off 40 balls, including six fours and as many sixes. His opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, also contributed a quickfire 32 runs, with the duo adding 92 runs for the first wicket. Klaasen, batting at number three, continued the carnage, registering what is now the joint third-fastest century in IPL history.
In reply, KKR's innings never truly took off as they kept on losing wickets until they lost the match. Despite Sunil Narine's strong start with 31 runs off 16 balls, his dismissal in the fourth over opened the floodgates for SRH. The middle order subsequently collapsed, with no other batter managing to score more than 20 runs. However, a fighting eighth-wicket partnership between Manish Pandey and Harshit Rana added some respectability to the score, as Pandey contributed 37 runs off 23 balls and Rana chipped in with 34 runs in 21 balls. For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat, Harsh Dubey, and Eshan Malinga each picked up three wickets, and there was also one run-out.
Meanwhile, SRH captain Pat Cummins was thrilled with his team's dominant win against KKR. After the match Cummins said that his team has the potential to make the finals most times but it just didn't work out this year
"Amazing finish. Lot of things clicked in the last few games. Amazing batting. We have the calibre, but we couldn't play any worse in some parts. Have the team to make the finals most times. It just didn't work out this year. We're gonna get wickets like this where we can max out, but others where we need to graft to 170 which we didn't get right. Feel like quite a few guys got opportunities. Really happy with the squad despite some injuries and players going out. Feels like we used 20 players," Cummins said at the post-match presentation.
With this SRH signed off the season with 13 points in 14 matches with six wins and seven defeats.
