MS Dhoni will feature in CSK vs KKR clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni missed the team's training session ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) which is scheduled to take place on May 7 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Dhoni's absence during training sessions raised concerns over his fitness for the team's 12th clash of the tournament.

However, CSK bowling coach Eric Simons confirmed that the captain will play the match. He reassured the media that there were no injury concerns for Dhoni and explained why the 43-year-old had reduced his training as the season progressed.

Dhoni is currently managing a troublesome knee, skipped training sessions in Kolkata on Monday and Tuesday, even as his teammates took to the nets at the iconic Eden Gardens.

"Yes, he's expected to play tomorrow," Simons said while speaking to the press in Kolkata on Tuesday.

"With regard to MS, he knows his situation very well. He knows where he is. In terms of his preparations, he always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he's ready.

"So, no issues. He just knows when he is prepared and when he's not."

There are speculations that MS Dhoni will play his last IPL clash at Eden Gardens. However, Dhoni has not spoken about retirement, Rumours suggest that the CSK captain might not continue playing in the IPL beyond this season.

Earlier this season, Danny Morrison asked Dhoni whether he would play next year. The five-time IPL-winning captain opted to dodge that question, saying that he was taking it one match at a time.

CSK faced a huge blow during IPL 2025 as their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of the tournament, and Dhoni had to step in to lead the side. After Dhoni took charge, there were expectations that CSK would make a comeback, but the franchise failed to perform as they  have lost nine of their first 11 matches and were the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs race
