GT thrashed RR by 58 runs to go atop the IPL 2025 points table

RR failed to chase down the 218-run target and were folded for just 159

Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their winning streak in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after their thumping .... win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on April 9, Wednesday. This was fourth straight victory for Gujarat Titans after losing to Punjab Kings in their IPL 2025 campaign opener.

Gujarat Titans go atop IPL 2025 points table after bulldozing RR

With this Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans go atop the IPL 2025 points table with eight points in a total of five matches. On the other hand, RR slumped to seventh in the standings with two wins and three defeats in a total of five matches.

Sai Sudharsan's brilliant 82 powers GT's 58-run triumph

Batting first Gujarat Titans put up a strong batting performance, reaching a total of 217 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs, with Sai Sudharsan leading the charge. He played a brilliant innings, scoring 82 runs off 51 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries and three sixes along the way.

Earlier in the match, Rajasthan Royals' captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first, inviting GT to bat. However, GT's start saw an early setback with Shubman Gill getting clean-bowled by Jofra Archer for just 2 runs. Jos Buttler provided some stability, scoring 36 runs off 25 balls, which included five boundaries.

A notable move in GT's batting order was the promotion of Shahrukh Khan, who justified the decision by contributing a quickfire 36 runs off just 20 deliveries, smashing four fours and two sixes. Rahul Tewatia also chipped in with a valuable cameo, scoring 24 runs off 12 balls and showing his class with the bat. As for the Rajasthan Royals' bowling attack, Maheesh Theekshana and Tushar Deshpande were the most successful bowlers, each picking up two wickets. Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma also managed to take one wicket apiece.

Shimron Heymer's fifty in vain

In reply, Prasidh Krishna ripped through the RR's batting line up with a brilliant spell of 3/24 as Sanju Samson's men were folded for just 159 despite Shimron Heymer's 32-ball 52.

Chasing a formidable total, Rajasthan Royals didn't get the strong start they were hoping for, as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early after scoring just six runs. Nitish Rana, coming in at number three, also couldn't make much of an impression. However, skipper Sanju Samson tried to steady the ship with a quick 41 off 28 balls. Riyan Parag looked promising but was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 26, and there seemed to be a bit of a discussion with the umpire regarding the DRS decision after his dismissal. Following Dhruv Jurel's dismissal for just 5 runs, Shimron Hetmyer took on the responsibility of the big hitting, scoring a crucial 52 off 32 balls. Unfortunately for RR, after Hetmyer's dismissal, their innings went downhill as the lower order struggled to cope with Gujarat Titans' strong bowling attack.

Gujarat Titans' Prasidh Krishna proved to be particularly effective with the ball, picking up a valuable three-wicket haul. Impressively, all of GT's bowlers managed to take at least one wicket, with Rashid Khan scalping two, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Kulwant Khejroliya, and Sai Kishore each contributed with a wicket. The Titans' disciplined bowling performance effectively stifled Rajasthan Royals' momentum, ultimately restricting them to a total of just 159 runs.

Shubman Gill and Co. will now face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, while RR will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 13 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
