Chennai Super Kings' star batter Sanju Samson ran riot with the bat and pummeled a lightning century to script history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11. Stepping into the wicketkeeping role in the absence of MS Dhoni, Samson became the first-ever wicketkeeper to score a century for CSK in the IPL. While Dhoni has been the franchise's mainstay behind the stumps since 2018, his highest score remains 84, Samson eclipsed this mark in just his fourth game for the Yellow Army, reaching his milestone with a boundary off T. Natarajan in the 18th over.
This landmark performance marks Samson's fourth century in his IPL career, further cementing his reputation as one of the league's premier big-game players. His journey to this feat includes a maiden ton for DC (then Delhi Daredevils) in 2017, followed by two centuries during his lengthy and successful tenure with the Rajasthan Royals.
Samson’s move to Chennai came via a high-profile trade from Rajasthan prior to the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Despite high expectations, he initially struggled to find his rhythm with his new franchise, managing a total of only 22 runs across his first three innings. However, his commanding performance at Chepauk signaled a spectacular return to form, ending a five-year wait for an IPL century and proving he is the explosive successor the Chennai faithful have been waiting for.
Talking about the match, CSK rode on Samson's blistering 56-ball 115 to post a massive total of 212/2. Ayush Mhatre played the second fiddle with a brilliant 36-ball 59.
