Looks like Shashank Singh has become the face of PBKS fielding woes

Shashank Singh dropped Heinrich Klaasen's catch during IPL 2026 clash between PBKS and SRH

Punjab Kings' (PBKS) fielding struggle was once again on full display, this time in the IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on May 6. A major turning point occurred in the ninth over when Heinrich Klaasen miscued a delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal toward backward square leg. Shashank Singh, who has struggled with his catching throughout the tournament, spilled the regulation chance, granting the dangerous South African batter a massive reprieve.

This error was part of a larger, disappointing trend for the Punjab side, which missed a total of three straightforward catches and a difficult stumping opportunity during the innings. Earlier in the match, Cooper Connolly failed to hold onto a "sitter" offered by Ishan Kishan. In a frustrating twist for Yuzvendra Chahal, he saw a second wicket slip through the fingers of his teammates when Lockie Ferguson also dropped Kishan later in his spell.

The missed opportunities proved costly as the "Orange Army" capitalized on their second chances. Ishan Kishan surged to a quick-fire half-century off just 28 balls, while Klaasen joined him in an aggressive assault on the Punjab bowling attack. To add to the Kings' woes, wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh narrowly missed a stumping chance during the same over as Shashank’s drop, with the ball bouncing awkwardly over his shoulder and allowing the momentum to stay firmly with Hyderabad.

Despite boasting some of the most athletic fielders in the IPL, PBKS have struggled with uncharacteristic inefficiency in their catching this season. The team's tally of dropped chances has now climbed to 14, a statistic that highlights a recurring lapse in concentration during critical moments of play.

With a catch conversion rate of just 70 per cent, the Kings currently hold the second-lowest percentage in the league.

Courtesy to the dropped catches, SRH ended up posting a big total of 235/4.
