Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) new mentor Dwayne Bravo claimed to have sent Gautam Gambhir a message asking him to follow some advice before the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Gautam Gambhir, who is now the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has been replaced by Bravo. Under the direction of Shreyas Iyer, Gambhir led KKR to their third IPL championship, ending their ten-year wait for a trophy. Dwayne Bravo, tasked with replicating Gambhir's success in the forthcoming season, compared his style to that of the former India batters.

"Unfortunately, we lost some players. But I think GG had his style, I have my style. We're both successful in our own ways. Definitely, I messaged him a few times and stuff. But again, I will be leaning a lot on these guys because they had a successful formula. And it's important that we follow that formula. I think it's going to be disrespectful of me not to try and find out some of the good things he did last season. But also, the core of the team is here,” Bravo was quoted as saying by PTI.

Due to Shreyas Iyer's decision to enter the auction and be purchased by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.5 crore, KKR will have a new captain for the forthcoming season. The team management has given experienced Ajinkya Rahane leadership responsibilities, and Venkatesh Iyer has been named as his deputy.

Rahane scored 133 runs from seven innings while playing for KKR in the 2022 season. In addition to leading India in all three formats, he has extensive experience as a captain. In 2018 and 2019, he captained the Rajasthan Royals for two seasons. KKR has already begun practicing for the forthcoming season, and they are keen to repeat their success from the previous tournament. On March 22, they will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens, their home field, to begin their campaign.
