Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Director of Cricket Tom Moody has officially confirmed that star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 season.

The Sri Lankan international, who was expected to be a cornerstone of the LSG bowling attack, has been sidelined by a persistent injury. During the KKR vs LSG clash on April 9, Moody stated that the franchise is already working on a solution and expects to announce a replacement player within the next 24 to 48 hours to fill the void left in their roster.
“We are sort of preparing for him not going to be available for us. So, we are in process of finalising a replacement that will be announced in next 24-48 hours," Moody said while talking to the broadcaster during the match.

The news follows complications regarding Hasaranga's availability after he sustained a recent hamstring injury. Because of this physical setback, he has not yet been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which is required for participation in the tournament.
Hasaranga has been sidelined from competitive cricket since February, after sustaining a significant tear to his left hamstring during Sri Lanka’s opening fixture of the T20 World Cup. His participation in the IPL was further complicated by administrative requirements; reports surfaced earlier this week indicating that he had not undergone the mandatory fitness assessments required by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). These tests are a prerequisite for any player seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is essential for joining an overseas franchise.
LSG in search of Hasaranga's replacement
LSG had secured the leg-spinner’s services for Rs 2 crore during the most recent auction, but his recurring injury issues have ultimately prevented him from linking up with the squad. This marks a shift in his IPL journey, as he represented the Rajasthan Royals last season and enjoyed a productive three-year stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru between 2021 and 2023. LSG will now have to look toward their replacement options to fill the void left by the experienced all-rounder.
