Rajat Patidar reacts after RCB's 17-year-long losing rut vs CSK at Chepauk comes to an end
Meanwhile, captain Rajat Patidar sort of teased Chepauk crowd after breaking RCB's 6154-day-long drought to beat CSK at their own fortress.
"It's always special playing at Chepauk against Chennai because of the fans. Not only CSK but every team, it is nice to play in their home ground," Patidar, who was adjudged Player of the match for his brilliant fifty, said at the post-match presentation.
Electing to bat first, RCB signaled their aggressive intentions right from the outset to post a daunting total of 196/7. The opening pair of Phil Salt, who scored a quick 32 runs off 16 balls, and Devdutt Padikkal, who contributed a brisk 27 off 14, provided their team with a blazing start. In the middle order, Rajat Patidar played a vital anchoring innings, scoring 51 runs from 32 balls, while Virat Kohli, showing resilience after taking a blow to the helmet, maintained the scoring momentum. Kohli contributed with 30-ball 31. Tim David provided a powerful flourish at the end of the innings, smashing an unbeaten 22 runs off just 8 balls, including three consecutive sixes. Throughout their innings, RCB's fearless approach remained unwavering, even when wickets fell or chances were missed in the field. For CSK, Noor Ahmad was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets for 36 runs, while Matheesha Pathirana chipped in with 2 wickets. However, RCB's relentless aggression ensured they posted a formidable total of 196 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.
Right from the start of their chase, CSK found themselves on the back foot, enduring a disastrous beginning to their innings. Josh Hazlewood's early spell proved highly damaging, as he first dismissed Rahul Tripathi for a mere 5 runs and then followed it up by taking the crucial wicket of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad without scoring, conceding just 6 runs in his opening two overs.
While Rachin Ravindra offered some resistance with a score of 41, none of the other Chennai Super Kings batsmen displayed the necessary promise or intent to build a substantial innings. Ravindra Jadeja contributed a 25 off 19 balls, and MS Dhoni came out to bat, chipping in with an unbeaten 30 off 16 deliveries.
However, their efforts proved to be too little too late, as CSK's innings ultimately concluded at 146 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of their 20 overs.
"It was a good total on this surface. Ball was stopping a bit and it wasn't easy for batters. It's always special playing at Chepauk against Chennai because of the fans. Not only CSK but every team, it is nice to play in their home ground. We were targeting around 200 because we knew it wasn't easy to chase. My goal was clear that as long as I was there I will keep trying every ball. We have not changed the batting line up it was the same from the last game. The track was pretty much helpful for spinners. We wanted to use spinners early and the way Livingstone came and bowled was outstanding. It was the game changing moment (Hazlewood's first over) because I think we got 2-3 wickets in the powerplay, t was amazing to see how they bowled the hard length consistently," Patidar added.
CSK will next face Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30, while RCB will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 2 in their upcoming IPL 2025 clash.
