Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face their arch rival Mumbai Indians (MI) in their upcoming IPL 2026 clash on Thursday, April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK will look for a big knock from their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the marquee game.
Ruturaj Gaikwad's underwhelming form in IPL 2026
Ruturaj has struggled a lot for big runs in the ongoing tournament with scoring only 82 runs in the first six games averaging only 13.67 with an underwhelming strike rate of 112.33. The right-handed opener registered his best score of 28 against Punjab Kings.

However, former CSK batter Subramanyam Badrinath believes that Ruturaj would score a big knock or even a century in the marquee clash against MI, given that the Wankhede Stadium's pitch would suit him to comeback in form.
"Ruturaj Gaikwad might be best suited for the Wankhede wicket. He should return to form against MI. A big knock or a century from him will turn CSK's fortunes around.
Saying further on the clash, Badrinath added that one of Sanju Samson, Dewald Brevis or Ruturaj has to score a century to win against a formidable side like Hardik Pandya's MI, who are coming off a spectacular win against Gujarat Titans.
"One of Brevis, Sanju, or Ruturaj has to score a 100 for CSK to threaten MI." added Badrinath.
Big boost for CSK ahead of clash against MI
Ahead of their clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Australian fast-bowler Spencer Johnson has joined the squad as Nathan Ellis' injury replacement.
The left-arm pacer missed CSK's first games because of a back injury and was working to achieve full fitness. Now Johnson himself confirmed his arrival in Chennai with an Instagram story from his official handle, as he visited 7Padel which is owned by former India captain MS Dhoni.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will aim to capitalize on Spencer Johnson's abilities by including him in the playing line-up against Mumbai Indians. The left-arm pacer could be useful in Mumbai's bouncy track and if everything goes well then he could be a big asset for CSK in the IPL 2026.
