Mohammad Kaif shared a big statement on Ishan Kishan amid his links to Mumbai Indians

Kishan has been linked with the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026

Though Ishan Kishan began his IPL 2025 campaign on a high and scored a fine century in Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) opening match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), he wasn't able to maintain that form for the rest of the season. After his hundred in the opening match, he managed to score just one half-century throughout the rest of the campaign. Kishan finished the season with a total of 354 runs under his name from 14 matches.

Following his disappointing performance in IPL 2025, Kishan has been linked to a move to his former team Mumbai Indians. Amid the links, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has stated that the left-hand batter will be a better fit for the Mumbai-based franchise and will get the chance to open the innings as well.

"Ishan Kishan is a better batter at Wankhede. He will open if he plays for MI. At SRH, he is batting at number three, and there is a huge difference. Despite taking him for a higher price, Hyderabad haven't been able to give him the right slot," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

"Maybe Ishan would himself want to go to Mumbai if a deal is possible. For MI, it is a great option - having an Indian opener and wicketkeeper allows flexibility with foreign players," he added.

SRH indirectly confirm Kishan's retention

Despite there being a lot of chatter around Kishan's IPL future, SRH have put all speculations to rest  b y indirectly confirming him to be a part of the franchise for the upcoming season. They  sh ared a 19-second video on X, captioned simply with, "Orange looks 24K on him." The video shows Kishan donning the SRH jersey and practicing in the nets.

SRH hope to improve in IPL 2026

Meanwhile, the Hyderbad-based franchise will be looking to significantly improve their performance in the upcoming season after they failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025. Notably, they finished the league stage on the sixth spot with 13 points from 14 games. It remains to be seen which players will the franchise decide to retain for the next season.
