There couldn't be a happier coach than Rahul Dravid after Rajasthan Royals's 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi took IPL 2025 by storm with his record-breaking century which helped his team crush Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets.
Despite currently recovering from an injury that requires him to use a wheelchair, Rajasthan Royals' head coach Rahul Dravid rose to his feet to applaud the remarkable performance of young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The occasion was Vaibhav's spectacular century that illuminated the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The 14-year-old left-handed batsman delivered an extraordinary innings during the IPL 2025 match against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 28. As RR pursued a formidable target of 210 runs, Vaibhav smashed a breathtaking century in just 35 balls. In no time he reached his half-century in a mere 17 deliveries before accelerating further to clock his century with a powerful six over deep mid-wicket off Rashid Khan in the 10th over.
Upon reaching this three-figure mark, Vaibhav was met with a standing ovation from Rahul Dravid, his Rajasthan Royals teammates, and the team's support staff. Dravid, who recently sustained an injury while playing cricket in Bengaluru, has continued to travel with the Royals throughout his recovery period.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's sensational innings was marked by the breaking of several significant records. His rapid scoring saw him become the youngest player to achieve a T20 half-century, surpassing the previous record held by Hassan Eisakhil. He then continued his assault to become the youngest T20 centurion, taking over the record from Vijay Zol.
Moreover, his blistering 35-ball century etched his name in IPL history as the fastest hundred by an Indian player. This feat eclipsed Yusuf Pathan's 37-ball century for the Royals against the Mumbai Indians in 2009. In the context of all IPL seasons, only Chris Gayle's remarkable 30-ball hundred for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013 stands as a faster century.
Suryavanshi's explosive innings culminated in a score of 101 runs off just 38 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and eleven towering sixes. He also forged a formidable 166-run partnership for the opening wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal in a mere 11.5 overs. His extraordinary knock finally concluded when he was bowled by Prasidh Krishna. Ultimately, Rajasthan Royals successfully chased down the target with 25 balls remaining, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory. Yashasvi Jaiswal also played a crucial supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 70 runs from 40 balls in RR's successful run-chase.
RR will next face Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 clash on May 1 at the Sawai Man Singh stadium.
