Virat Kohli reached the coveted figure of 13000 T20 runs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) batting juggernaut Virat Kohli stormed into the history books during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 encounter against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 7. Virat Kohli clocked a remarkable milestone as he crossed the 13,000 runs in his T20 career.

The 36-year-old RCB superstar crossed this prestigious landmark when he reached 17 runs during his innings. This sensational accomplishment makes Kohli the first ever Indian cricketer to amass 13,000 T20 runs and places him among an elite group of only five batsmen overall to have achieved this feat.

Kohli reached this milestone in his 386th T20 innings, an achievement that positions him as the second-fastest batter to reach 13,000 runs. Kohli trails only the legendary West Indian Chris Gayle, who reached the same mark in a mere 381 innings. Notably, Kohli surpassed English batter Alex Hales by a margin of nearly 90 innings to secure the second spot on this exclusive list.

Kohli surpassed the 12,000-run mark in T20 cricket during the 2024 season. In that instance as well, he held the record of being the second-fastest to the milestone, once again following the pace set by Chris Gayle, reaching it in just 360 innings.

Among Indian batsmen, Rohit Sharma occupies the second position in the list of highest T20 run-scorers, having accumulated 11,851 runs across 438 innings played. Kohli's journey in the T20 format started on April 3, 2007, representing Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament, which was subsequently renamed the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy. In his debut match, he contributed 35 runs to his team's total.

Kohli ended up scoring a lightning 67 off 42 riding on eight fours and two sixes to leave RCB strongly placed at 143/3 after 14.1 overs.
