Chasing a target of 177 runs, the dapper duo of Rohit Sharma, who remained unbeaten on a well-crafted 76 off 45 balls, and Suryakumar Yadav, who also stayed not out with a blistering 68 off just 30 deliveries, forged an unbroken 114-run partnership for the second wicket. Their stellar performance ensured a comfortable victory for Mumbai Indians. Ravindra Jadeja was the only Chennai Super Kings bowler to claim a wicket, conceding just 18 runs in his spell.

Batting first CSK, despite a shaky start, managed to post a total of 176 runs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to half-centuries from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, who shared a crucial 79-run stand for the fourth wicket. Dube scored a quick 50 off 32 balls, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 53 off 35 deliveries. MS Dhoni not happy with CSK's slow batting in the middle overs after MI jolt

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni, at the post-match presentation, indirectly blamed CSK's slow batting in the middle and admitted his team started slogging late which batting.

Ravindra Jadeja arrived to the crease at the 6.6 over along with Shivam Dube on the other end when CSK's scoreboard read 57/2. The duo went in shell and the struggled for 29 balls without a boundary until the 11.4 over. However, Jadeja and Dube did accelerate their individual knocks later by cracking brilliant fifties. But the sluggish show in the middle did thwart CSK from posting a big total.

"We were quite below par. Knew dew would come in the second half. Bumrah one of the best death bowlers in the world, MI started their death bowling early, we should have started our slog early. We should have capitalised and got those runs. [Mhatre] Batted well, he picked his shots well. Wanted to play his shots, we also haven't seen him much. Odd ball was gripping. They played spin well. We never had a par score. If you give away too many in the first six. It wasn't like it was coming on nicely. We need to realise, we are successful because we play good cricket. But we need not get too emotional. We need to see if we are playing the right form or cricket, trying to put right amount of runs. A few more catches will help, we are trying to plug in the holes. Take one game at a time. Look at the combinations for the next season, if we don't qualify," Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
