What are the rules of RTM card and how can teams use it in IPL 2025 mega auction?

Since many teams wanted to stick with their key players, the RTM cards, which were dropped in the previous mega auction before the 2022 Indian Premier League, have returned this year.

Teams can use RTM in mega auction.

RTM has a new rule this time.

The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The use of the Right To Match (RTM) cards, which are available to eight of the ten teams, will be one of the event's most intriguing features. Since many teams wanted to stick with their key players, the RTM cards, which were dropped in the previous mega auction before the 2022 Indian Premier League, have returned this year.

Before the mega auction in the Middle East, the IPL Governing Council permitted the teams to keep up to six players. They may wait until the auction to use the RTM cards to bring back the players they want, or they could keep the players they want straight.

The only two teams have filled all their slots by announcing all six of their retained players before the auction. They were the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). As a result, these two teams will not be able to use RTM cards at the auction table. Each of the remaining teams has access to at least one RTM card. With the help of these cards, they can get some of their released players.

Teams with the most RTMs

During the major auction, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise will have the privilege of using up to four RTM cards. In the last three seasons, the Punjab-based team has played 42 games, winning 18 and losing 24. With only two players left before the auction—Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh—the management made the decision to undergo a total makeover.

New RTM rule

This new rule allows the original bidder with one last opportunity to increase their bid when a team uses an RTM card. The team using the RTM card must match the original bidder's increase in order to retain the player. The original bidder receives the player, and the team that originally intended to use the RTM card retains it for a later time if the team using the card chooses not to match the bid.
