Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal has made a tall claim amidst Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. Iqbal who let Babar Azam go said that the former Pakistan captain's comeback will be so impactful it will surpass Virat Kohli and his comparison will be with legendary players like Viv Richards and Gary Sobers.
"When Babar Azam makes a comeback again, he will be a bigger player than any other player in the world, including Virat Kohli. He will be matched with names like Gary Sobers and Sir Viv Richards,” Iqbal said via ARY Podcast.
Babar who has been dropped from T20I side is struggling for form in the format. In Peshawar Zalmi's campaign opener against Quetta Gladiators, he was dismissed for a duck by left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir. In the match against Isalamabad United, he returned to the pavillion after scoring just one run. This time he was dismissed by Australia's left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis.
In their next match, they will go up against Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultans on April 19. Babar will have a chance to come back in form and also help his team open their win account after two massive losses.
Why Kings let go of Babar?
During the podcast, Iqbal also revealed why he let go of Babar along with Imad Wasim and Amir despite the trio helping them win their maiden PSL title.
“We wanted him to bat at number three, but he was not ready to change his role,” Iqbal said.
"The management decided to have a complete overhaul of the squad, that's why we let Babar, Imad (Wasim), and (Mohammad) Amir go," he added.
Kings start well under Warner
Meanwhile, Karachi Kings who are being led by David Warner have got off to a good start. They won their opening encounter by four wickets. After the 65-run loss to Lahore Qalandars, they bounced back well with a 56-run win over Quetta Gladiators. Currently, they are placed third on the points table with an inferior net run rate (NRR) to Lahore Qalandars.
