England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes who had taken an indefinite break of cricket has posted an update about his injury. Stokes injured his index finger while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021’s first phase. However, after surgery, Stokes led England against Pakistan at home in the limited-overs series followed by the inaugural edition of the Hundred. But, the problem did not go away and the World Cup 2019-winning member underwent another surgery during his break.

The 30-year-old gave a crucial update on his Twitter with a photo of him holding his bat. “12th April Broken Finger, 11th October first time since breaking being able to get it around the handle,” Stokes wrote on the photo he shared on Twitter.

This is a massive boost for England who have been missing their prime all-rounder. “Stokes had two screws and scar tissue removed from the index finger of his left hand. He will now undergo an intensive period of rehabilitation for the next four weeks under the supervision of the ECB’s medical team,” England Cricket Board (ECB) stated in the statement on October 7.

Even though the deadline for submitting the final squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup is October 15 for the teams who have already qualified for Super 12s, Stokes will not feature in the mega event. The left-handed batter has not been named in the 17-man squad for Ashes 2021-22 either. It is likely that the all-rounder returns to international cricket next year. However, if any of players bound for Ashes get injured, a fit again Stokes should be the first choice for the Joe Root-led side.
